Creating the Future is embarking on a project to propel systems change towards its potential – creating a world that works for all of us.
And you are invited to be part of that!
The Project
Creating the Future is taking first steps in convening an effort to align social change support systems (like funding and governance and planning) with the humane, resilient, equitable future we are seeking to create. You can read more about that project here.
A key condition for success in that effort will be a strategy for communicating and engaging with people about the project – how we talk about it, with whom, in what format, etc.
Because our strategy meetings at Creating the Future are always open for anyone to participate (or just watch), you are invited to be part of that strategy development!
Designing Communication/Engagement Strategy Meeting #1 was held on Thursday, September 19th
from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm ET
Watch the meeting HERE
or, LISTEN TO THE MEETING HERE
or Download the MP3
(To download to your hard drive, right-click {or click and hold on a Mac} on the link above and select "Save Target As".. or "Save Link as"... depending on your browser)
The meetings will be guided by Catalytic Thinking. (To see the powerful difference that makes in practice, those differences are listed here.) When you join us, you will have a front row seat to experience how Catalytic Thinking can be used for developing strategy of any kind, and in particular for developing communications and engagement strategy.
All that while adding your wisdom to this exciting project!
How to Know if This is for You
After reading the post that introduces this new effort, if this sounds intriguing to you, we invite you to be part of these discussions!
• If you are tired of feeling stuck – like Sisyphus rolling that rock up the hill, again and again - like the systems that are supposed to support your work are more trouble than they are worth…
• If you want to experience an alternative to “target marketing,” to see what a different conversation about engagement and communication strategy can look like when we set aside preconceived notions about how “marketing and communications” are supposed to be done...
• If you want to experience an approach to planning that reaches for what is possible vs. reacting to what is wrong...
• Or if you simply love Creating the Future’s mission and want to be part of this next big thing we’re diving into…
Please be part of this work!
Meeting Details
There will be 2 meetings in September, as we take our first steps in building the strategy. The second meeting will pick up where the first leaves off. And both will be recorded, so if you miss the first one, you can still be part of the second one.
Thursday, September 19th from 1pm to 3pm Eastern time
Wednesday, September 25th from 1pm to 3pm Eastern time.
The sessions will be guided by Catalytic Thinking. You can find more info about Catalytic Thinking here.
Where we meet:
The meeting will take place right here at this post. If the video does not appear precisely on time, please be patient – we are probably just running a few minutes late or having technical difficulties (the bane of living online).
How to participate:
There are 3 ways you can participate in our meetings.
Join us inside the meeting:
If your familiarity with and commitment to Creating the Future’s work is calling you to be actively involved in the discussion, side-by-side at our online “meeting table,” let us know, and we will send you an invitation to join us online.
Watch and Tweet
If you want to participate but are unable to be in the meeting itself (perhaps you’re at work, or maybe at home with kids running around, etc.), watch the live-stream in real time and tweet your questions and ideas to us via the hashtag #CreatingTheFuture. We read those tweets aloud during the meeting, just as if you were there. This is a great first step for those who are not as familiar with our work, but want to get more involved.
(Please note: We will only see your tweets if you use the #CreatingTheFuture hashtag. In addition, during the meeting, we will not look at blog comments here at this post. While we will check those comments later, during the meeting we will only be following the #CreatingTheFuture hashtag in the Twitter stream.)
Watch and Respond Later
Lastly, if you want to simply watch, or you want to think about what you’re hearing and respond later – or if you will be watching the recording after the meeting happens – please add your thoughts into the comments here at this post. We will include that thinking into the mix of things.
Any background info you may need for this meeting will be found at this post.
We hope to see you at one or both of these gatherings!
