Our Values in Action: Board / Community Meeting June 2017

What do our values look like in action?

That will be the topic of our community’s conversation (and board meeting) on Monday, June 12th from 1pm-3pm Eastern time (US).

This is perhaps the most important topic any community can discuss. How can we walk the talk of our values, aligned in integrity with our deepest beliefs, if we aren’t clear about the things that are most important to us?

One thing we know for certain:
It is important that this discussion include the people in our community.

And when we say “participate,” we mean it. If you’ve watched or been part of any of our meetings, you know that it is impossible to know who is actually a bonafide board member and who is not (clue: our board is very small, so most people in any given meeting are NOT on the board!).

To prepare for the meeting, here is the draft statement we will be discussing. It is in 2 parts, beginning with this post. If you only read one post to prepare for the meeting, make it this one.

To help us beforehand as we prepare for the meeting, we are asking our community members to answer, “What do YOU think we value?” We hope you’ll share your insights, to help us craft that statement and to help us walk our talk. Please share your thoughts at this link.

And if this is your first time atttending a Creating the Future meeting, this document will give you a general feel for what you can expect “Participating in Meetings at Creating the Future: What to Expect”. To see some of those meetings for yourself, you’ll find our past board meetings via this link.

So please join us! The meeting will happen online and will take place right here at this post, on Monday, June 12th from 1pm-3pm Eastern time (US).

To watch and participate…
There are 3 ways to participate in our meetings.

  • If your commitment to Creating the Future’s work is calling you to be actively involved in the meeting discussion side-by-side at our online “board table,” let us know, and we will send you an invitation to join us online.
  • If you want to participate but are unable to be in the meeting itself (perhaps you’re at work, or maybe at home with kids running around, etc.), watch the live-stream in real time and tweet your questions and ideas to us via the hashtag #CTFuture. We read those tweets aloud during the meeting, just as if you were there.

(Please note: We will only see your tweets if you use the #CTFuture hashtag. In addition, during the meeting, we will not look at blog comments here at this post. While we will check those comments later, during the meeting we will only be following the #CTFuture hashtag in the Twitter stream.)

  • Lastly, if you want to simply watch, or you want to think about what you’re hearing and respond later – or if you will be watching the recording after the meeting happens – please add your thoughts into the comments here at this post. We will include that thinking into the mix of things.

We look forward to your being part of our discussion on Monday, June 12th!

Watch the meeting live right here at this post. If the video does not appear precisely on the hour, please be patient – we are probably just running a few minutes late.

  1. It seems to me that among your core values is DISCERNMENT. By this I mean, always seeing oneself and the world around one with fresh (clearer, more optimistic) eyes. The term is frequently associated with religious perspective, so might be a problem. NOTE: In mystical Hebrew, discernment is the letter AYIN, symbolized by the eye.

  2. Respect and Promotion of the response to human dignity for each individual and group -to arrive in collective agreement for the benefit of all.
