Topic: “Intellectual Property”
Every bit of Creating the Future’s programs and purpose are built upon our “intellectual property.” (We’ve put that term in quotes because that’s the commonly understood term, but we’re not so sure we like it.)
That said, our whole mission is to have what we’ve learned become ubiquitous – shared, spread, so that these different ways of being with each other are simply how life is. A big part of that is the open way in which we operate, and the openness with which we share what we are learning – all of which feels very counter to holding tight to who owns what words.
But we are also human, and feel ownership. And there are legal issues. And all sorts of other “yeah buts”, which we know are simply unmet conditions for success – things about which we have, to date, asked the same old questions and gotten the same old answers. But it doesn’t have to be that way…
For background, the board began discussing this issue during its September 2012 meeting. That discussion begins with this blog post, and is summarized in the agenda links and minutes here.
We know this discussion will be rich and layered. We will begin by defining what we want from the discussion – meeting each participant in the discussion where he/she is with this topic. We will then reach for what is possible, and only then dive in to figure out the critical path to that end goal. We hope you will join in and be one of those participants!
Watch the meeting live and share your ideas, questions, and observations by tweeting to the hashtag #CTFuture.
If the video does not appear precisely on the hour, please be patient – we are probably running a few minutes late.
We hope you’ll be able to join us for our upcoming board meeting! We look forward to hearing from you.
