The Continuum of Potential

Identifying what clients really need,
so you can be the one to help them soar

Clients are absolutely ready for change (even if they don't realize it).

  • It could be a small change, like getting more funding.
  • It could be a massive change, like transforming their board.
  • And then sometimes, clients think they need one thing, when what they really need is something entirely different!

➡️How can you tell what clients are really ready for?
➡️How can you ensure your marketing speaks
directly to the kinds of groups you want to work with?

What can you do to get the gig?

The Continuum of Potential
It's all about behavioral change.
At the core, consulting and coaching are about behavioral change.

How can you know what degree of change your clients and prospects are actually ready for?

When you propose solutions, how can you know if what you're proposing is what the client feels they need vs. what you think they need?

  • After a great conversation, prospective clients stop returning calls.
  • Or in the middle of a project, the work slows down or even stops, as folks miss deadlines they themselves created.
  • And then sometimes, clients soar to amazing heights, beyond what either or you expected!

What is happening in these cases? And what can you do?

Rooted in a combination of brain science, behavioral psychology, and practical experience, the Continuum of Potential is a unique approach that combines compassionate listening with behavior change.

What is keeping some clients stuck, while others are kicking butt?

What are people really telling you when they say things like "We're fine, we just need a grant" or "We've tried everything, nothing works" or "Our board will never change"?

And how can you respond to those statements in ways that create openings and possibilities?

When you do not know how to interpret people's words and actions, you leave so much potential on the table.

  • Your marketing doesn't attract the kinds of groups you really want to work with.
  • You lose out on projects you thought were a sure thing.
  • Once the work starts, you run into stumbling blocks you hadn't anticipated - the kinds of stuff that "comes out of nowhere."

The Continuum of Potential provides a roadmap for understanding the cues people are sharing, that we are not trained to notice. Those cues are indicators of the various stages we all go through as we step into what is possible - stages of behavioral and attitudinal change.

With its roots in a variety of behavioral sciences, the Continuum of Potential provides a path for your own actions to catalyze real change.

As a facilitator, the Continuum helps me create meetings people actually want to attend!

The Continuum helped me support my team with some big changes, reminding me that everyone reacts differently to change.

The Continuum of Potential helps me meet people where they are, listening with compassion to create “yes and” situations. It is such a practical framework.

  • If you've ever been frustrated when friends and colleagues ask for your advice and then argue with the advice you offer...
  • If you wonder why the exact same actions create dramatically different results for people who appear to be in the exact same circumstances...
  • If you want your marketing to speak directly to the exact kinds of groups you want to work with...
  • If you want to up your game with a new level of effectiveness for helping clients step into what's possible...

The Continuum of Potential will help you see what is not obvious, helping you unravel the complexities of client relations by making the invisible visible.

From this new way of seeing, you will be able to...

  • understand more deeply and compassionately where people are in their own readiness to step into their potential
  • understand what role you can play in opening the door, so that they can see what might be possible.
  • and importantly, you'll be able to meet folks where they are, to increase your chances of getting the gig in the first place!

What is this Class? Who is it for?

This class is for consultants and coaches to community benefit groups and organizations such as nonprofits, foundations, and other changemakers.

(NOTE: If you are curious about the Continuum of Potential but you are not a consultant, we will be offering another class soon for folks working directly in community. If you're interested in that class, send us a note and we'll add you to the notification list for that class.)

This class is for consultants who want to...

... better understand what prospective clients are really telling you (vs. what you think they're telling you)

... help clients and prospective clients move from "stuck" to taking action

... be more effective in listening and communicating in all aspects of your life

... be a more effective change agent, for your clients and yourself

... understand how to craft programs of any kind - including speeches and classes - that connect
immediately with your intended audience

Here's what you'll experience:

The class begins with an introduction to the frameworks into which the Continuum fits - Catalytic Thinking and Catalytic Listening - including the science behind those frameworks.

From there, you will be introduced to some of the key brain science and behavioral psychology explaining what it really takes for folks to step into their potential

The class will then guide you through the 7 sequential stages people go through as they step into what is possible in their lives.

You'll learn the language cues and behavioral cues that folks are sharing, that will give you clues to what they are ready to step into - so that you know which of your suggestions will stick the landing.

Lastly, the class will provide simple steps you can take to unlock the door to what is possible, for that other person and for yourself.

Through the video lessons, the dozens of pages of worksheets and practice exercises in the study guide, and the live 2-hour Q&A discussion, you will see not just clients, but EVERYONE around you in a whole new way. And with that new way of listening, your results will immediately begin to improve.... noticeably!

If you are not certain if this class is for you, and you are curious, send us a note and let's chat to see if this is a good fit for you.

What You'll Learn

What does it actually mean to meet people where they are? When we say, “Meet people where they are,” where exactly are they?

• How to know ahead of time whether a gig might not be a good fit, before things get uncomfortable or completely blow up.

Why folks don't take action on approaches you've all agreed would be effective - even when you've  created a calendared plan to make it happen.

• What marketing language will help you target the exact groups you want to work with.

What leads to people being stuck? What keeps them there, and what do they need in order to get unstuck?

• Why do prospective clients agree with you about what they need, and then hire someone else to do something entirely different?

• The role of compassion in unlocking the door to the potential in your clients and yourself.

• Why people make decisions / take actions that seem to go counter to their best interests.

• What it takes for team members (including boards) to get on the same page.

• The brain science and behavioral psychology behind why people do or don’t take action.

• Why actions that work for one group backfire with others in similar circumstances.

• Why consultants often have a hard time getting clients to take action on things that are clearly in the organization’s best interest.

• How to know what kinds of responses will help vs. frustrate the other person.

Why you can’t make anyone do anything. And why it is counterproductive to try.
