Dear friends:
Oh my goodness,
thank you!
When
I opened my email the morning of my 60th birthday, and saw the
incredible surprise gifts from so many of you – well, I am still
overwhelmed and more grateful than I can say.
For
some reason, we tend to refrain from telling people how they have
touched our lives while they are still alive to appreciate it. Instead,
we save those words for eulogies.
You
can therefore imagine how it feels to read story after story about the
changes so many of you have seen in your own lives, all from our being
on this journey together.
And
then what an honor to have a fund established in my honor, furthering
the education mission of Creating the Future! That fund will provide
scholarships and other special project funding, to advance this
important work. My heart leaps to know this is just the beginning.
I
am so grateful to each of you, for all of it. And I am especially
grateful to Dimitri Petropolis and Rebecca Hurd, my partners in leading
Creating the Future, for managing to keep all that effort secret for
all those weeks!
If
you haven’t yet been part of that incredible celebration, Rebecca and
Dimitri are keeping it alive at
this link. During these final weeks of my writing sabbatical,
they are encouraging people to continue to add to the
celebration.
Try This:
I
cannot resist the opportunity to invite you to try this in your own
life. If there is someone who has been important to you, tell
them.
There
are few certainties in life. One is that we are all mortal. Another is
that we never know when our time will be up. So if someone has made a
difference in your life, tell them now.
And
to those who took the time to let me know about the difference my work
has meant in your life, please know that your words have energized me
to keep at it. There is so much work to be done, to create the world we
all sense is possible. I am more grateful than you can know that we are
walking this journey together.
