To bring out the BEST in each other, we need to know when we are inadvertently bringing out the WORST in each other. |
| |
|
What questions actually make things worse? The
3 Questions at the core of the practices of Catalytic Thinking are
simultaneously simple and powerful. They are the questions at the heart
of every movement for positive change that has ever happened in our
world. They are at the core of every teaching, in every tradition,
because we have known for many millennia what brings out the best in us. Read those questions here...Unfortunately, most people don't have a lot of practice asking those powerful questions. Instead, the questions we ask often inadvertently bring out the WORST in each other. Try this: 1) To practice asking questions that bring out the BEST in you and the people around you, Part One of this week's practice is a FREE video class: Change the Questions, Change the World. Watch it here... (or download it as an MP3 here.) 2) In
addition to sharing the questions that bring out our best, the video
also shares questions that inadvertently bring out the WORST in each
other. And so, Part Two of this week’s practice is to notice how many times you hear those “bring out the worst” questions every day!
- As you listen to the news, listen to the questions reporters ask
- When you are at work, listen to the questions asked in staff meetings and in planning sessions
- At home, listen to the questions you ask your spouse, your kids, your friends.
- At school, listen to the questions your professors are asking.
By
noticing the power of questions to inadvertently bring out the WORST in
people, you will begin to see how powerful it would be to change those
questions. You can imagine what might happen if you (and others)
routinely asked the new go-to questions Hildy suggests in the video. (And Bonus Points if you share what happens when you try!)
We
can all change any situation instantly when we know the types of
questions that bring out the best in each other. That is why questions
are at the heart of Catalytic Thinking. |

Creating
the
Future
is a
collection of
people around
the world,
supporting
each other in
a grand
experiment.
|
|
|
|
The
experiment:
To
determine how
much better
the world
could be if
the questions
we ask in our
day to day
lives are
bringing out
the best in
each other.
If
everyone,
everywhere, is
bringing out
the best in
every person
they encounter
– and if the
systems that
guide our
behaviors are
built to bring
out the best
in all of us -
how much
closer will we
all be to a
healthy,
humane world
that works for
all of us?
